Pull Heavy Without Punishing Your Back

The PRx Olympic Hex Barbell puts the load at your hips instead of in front of your shins. That single change takes a large share of the shear stress off your lower back, which is why hex bar deadlifts are a staple for lifters managing back or joint issues and for anyone who wants to train pulls hard without accumulating wear.

It is not a rehab tool, though. The hex bar is one of the best ways to move heavy loads fast, and it doubles as the most convenient implement in the gym for farmer carries, shrugs and bent-over rows.

Key Features

Hip-Level Load Path
Weight sits in line with your body rather than in front of it, reducing spinal stress on every rep.
Step-Through Hex Frame
A 56" x 23" footprint gives you room to stand inside the bar and set a strong, upright pulling position.
10" Handles, 2 Heights
Long, neutral-grip handles with two starting heights so you can adjust grip position for different lifters and different exercises.
Hard Chrome Plated
A durable plated finish that shrugs off chalk, sweat and garage humidity.
Medium Knurl Depth
Grips securely on heavy pulls without shredding your hands during high-rep carries.
Standard Olympic Sleeves
9.5" sleeves at 1.96" diameter take any Olympic plate you already own.
Genuinely Multi-Exercise
Deadlifts, farmer carries, shrugs, bent-over rows and jumps all work with the same implement.
45 lb Bar Weight
Matches a standard barbell, so your loading math does not change when you switch.

Description

The mechanical argument for a hex bar is straightforward. In a conventional deadlift the bar sits in front of your body, and your lower back has to resist a long lever arm the whole way up. Step inside a hex bar and the load lines up with your hips. The lever arm shortens, the torso stays more upright, and the same total weight produces far less shear force through the spine.

In practice that means two things. Lifters with a history of back trouble can keep training pulls heavy instead of avoiding them. And healthy lifters can typically move more weight, faster, than they can conventionally, which makes the hex bar an excellent tool for building raw power.

PRx built this one at 56" long and 23" wide with 10" neutral handles set at two starting heights, so there is room to set up properly whatever your build and your goal for that session. The medium knurl holds without being punishing, and the whole frame is hard chrome plated to survive being dropped, dragged and left on a concrete floor. The 9.5" sleeves at 1.96" diameter accept standard Olympic plates.

Once it is in the gym you will use it for more than deadlifts. Load it up and walk for farmer carries, or use it for shrugs and bent-over rows where the neutral grip is kinder to your shoulders than a straight bar. For most home gyms it is the second bar worth owning.
